Job Summary

The Claims Learner will be trained to process and manage insurance claims within delegated authority limits.

The role focuses on validating claims, assessing liability, negotiating settlements, ensuring regulatory compliance within the short-term insurance framework, and delivering excellent customer service while maintaining cost control.

Key Performance Areas and Responsibilities

Administration and Claims Processing

  • Perform administrative functions including registration of new claims and loading and authorising payments
  • Examine and validate new claims and all related documentation
  • Assess claims to ensure alignment with policy cover
  • Verify that supporting documents for quantum are received and calculations are accurate
  • Maintain document diaries on the IMS system
  • Update reserves in accordance with reserving policy and regularly follow up on outstanding proof of quantum
  • Exercise sound judgment to analyse claims exposure and determine appropriate settlement within delegated authority
  • Approve claims within delegated authority after document verification and policy validation
  • Escalate complex or contentious claims to the Supervisor
  • Manage external resources in line with required procedures and organisational philosophy
  • Update system notes regularly to reflect the latest status of each claim
  • Inform the underwriting department of cover gaps, missing documentation, and premium losses or gains
  • Handle customer enquiries promptly and in accordance with policy guidelines

Agency and Broker Liaison

  • Negotiate claim settlements
  • Liaise regularly with agent companies and brokers regarding claim progress
  • Update relevant stakeholders on the status of claims

Ad Hoc Responsibilities

  • Perform reasonable tasks as required by the Line Manager

Learnership Objective

This 12-month learnership is designed to provide practical exposure to claims administration, liability assessment, policy interpretation, and regulatory compliance within a structured insurance environment.

Participants will develop analytical skills, negotiation capability, customer service competence, and a solid understanding of short-term insurance claims processes.
