Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of the Witwatersrand.
The position is based within the MRC/Wits Agincourt Research Unit, a leading health and population research centre operating in the Agincourt sub-district of rural north-east South Africa. The unit conducts longitudinal health and socio-demographic surveillance and collaborates with interdisciplinary international research teams.

Main Purpose of the Role
The Driver will transport Agincourt employees to various villages and collect study participants from households for weekend camps.
The role also includes transporting visitors and goods related to the Research Unit’s operational requirements while ensuring safety, compliance, and vehicle care.
Key Performance Areas
Vehicle Management and Compliance
- Keep the vehicle clean and conduct necessary checks
- Monitor vehicle performance and condition
- Provide feedback to management on vehicle status
- Report vehicle faults, repairs, or accidents timeously
- Complete vehicle usage forms in accordance with policy
- Adhere strictly to traffic laws and regulations
Transportation Duties
- Deliver field staff to designated villages and study sites
- Collect and drop off field staff safely
- Transport study participants to and from households
- Maintain accurate records of drop-offs and collections
- Assist with loading and off-loading study equipment
Safety and Professional Conduct
- Operate the vehicle responsibly and considerately
- Obey all traffic rules
- Ensure confidentiality of sensitive study-related information
- Work collaboratively within a team environment
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Valid driver’s license
Work Experience
- Minimum 1 year experience in a research environment

- Ability to follow instructions accurately
- Self-motivated and reliable
- Strong communication skills in English and Xitsonga (written and oral)
- Problem-solving ability
