Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of the Witwatersrand.
This role is based within the MRC/Wits Agincourt Research Unit, a leading health and population research centre conducting long-term health and socio-demographic surveillance in the Agincourt sub-district of rural north-east South Africa.

Main Purpose of the Role
The Fieldworker will conduct household visits within designated villages to collect and capture research data.
The role requires accurate data collection, participant engagement, adherence to research protocols, and proper documentation management.
Key Performance Areas
Fieldwork and Participant Engagement
- Visit households and obtain informed consent from participants
- Establish trust and respectful relationships with participants
- Actively listen and provide appropriate support
- Address concerns and misconceptions about the study
- Contact and follow up with non-attendees
- Identify movers and provide feedback to the Supervisor
Data Collection and Documentation
- Ensure CRFs and tracking sheets are completed correctly
- Follow Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines during participant visits
- Write clear and detailed field notes
- File participant forms in alphabetical order
- Submit completed forms to relevant data capturers
- Update maps regularly
Operational Support
- Plan first and second household visits
- Refer field challenges and queries to the Field Supervisor
- Collect and return laptops or tablets from the Site Office
- Ensure stationery is available at all times
- Order cover sheets, consent forms, and parent demo CRFs
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Diploma or Certificate in Computer Literacy
Work Experience
- Minimum 1 year experience in a research environment

- Self-motivated and reliable
- Strong communication skills in English and Xitsonga (written and oral)
- Problem-solving ability
- Ability to meet pre-set objectives
- Ability to work effectively within a team
