Main Purpose of the Job
To provide comprehensive medical care and clinical support to patients enrolled in treatment and prevention programs at PHRU, and to participants enrolled in clinical trials conducted at the unit.
The role includes clinical trial oversight, patient management, and research participation in alignment with institutional and regulatory standards.
Key Performance Areas
- Provision of clinical care to patients and research participants
- Accurate and comprehensive medical record keeping
- Management of patient and participant flow within the clinic
- Oversight or management of clinical trials as designated by the Principal Investigator
- Participation in all phases of the research process
- Resolution of queries from Data Management teams and Internal or External Monitors within required timelines
- Review of laboratory and clinical results for all participants
- Quality checks of source documents during participant visits to ensure completeness and compliance
Minimum Education and Training
- Matric
- Medical Degree (MBChB)
- Qualification as a Medical Doctor
Professional Registration
- Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner in Independent Practice
- Registered with the Medical Protection Society (MPS)
Minimum Work Experience
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in Clinical Trials
- 3 to 5 years’ managerial experience
Additional Requirements and Competencies
- Experience in HIV and TB treatment and care
- Experience as a sub-investigator in clinical trials
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification
- Strong clinical skills and attention to detail
- Empathy and understanding of people living with HIV/AIDS and key populations
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word and Excel
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent decision-making
- Ability to work under pressure across multiple projects and teams
- Research experience or willingness to develop research capacity
