Underground Maintenance Manager – North Mara Gold Mine

Barrick Gold Corporation is recruiting an experienced Underground (UG) Maintenance Manager for North Mara Gold Mine. The successful candidate will lead the underground mobile maintenance team and ensure high equipment reliability while maintaining strong safety and operational standards.

About the Role
The Underground Maintenance Manager will oversee all underground mobile equipment maintenance activities. The role focuses on maximizing equipment availability, minimizing downtime, and ensuring maintenance practices align with industry standards and safety regulations.
The position also requires close collaboration with operations teams to coordinate maintenance schedules and support efficient mining production.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
- Lead and supervise the underground mobile maintenance team.
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for underground equipment.
- Manage maintenance schedules, spare parts inventory, and procurement processes.
- Ensure compliance with operational procedures and mining safety regulations.
- Promote a strong safety-first culture within the maintenance team.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to underground mobile machinery.
- Monitor equipment performance and establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Coordinate major maintenance repairs with operations to minimize production disruptions.
- Maintain detailed maintenance records and prepare reports for management review.
- Manage maintenance budgets and optimize resources to control operational costs.
- Stay updated with technological advancements and integrate best maintenance practices.
- Conduct workplace inspections to identify and resolve operational issues.
- Supervise staff performance, training, and professional development.
- Ensure proper use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Conduct event investigations and follow up on recommendations.
- Provide maintenance input for new mining projects and construction activities.
- Ensure quality assurance and quality control for maintenance operations.
- Provide feedback to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to improve equipment performance.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Underground Manager.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following academic requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Or a related engineering discipline.
Additional certifications in Heavy Equipment, Mining, or Safety Management will be considered an advantage.
Experience and Skills Required
Candidates should possess the following experience and competencies:
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in underground mobile equipment maintenance within the mining industry.
- At least 3 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong understanding of underground mining operations and maintenance systems.
- Experience with maintenance management software such as SAP.
- Proven experience with mining equipment from manufacturers such as Sandvik is highly preferred.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage maintenance teams and coordinate with operational departments.
