Fiber Network Technician Job Opportunity
Fiber Network Technicians are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber-optic cable systems used to deliver internet connectivity and audio-visual transmissions. The role involves fieldwork, technical troubleshooting, and ensuring that network infrastructure operates efficiently and reliably.
The successful candidate will support fiber network operations by conducting preventive maintenance, responding to technical faults, and assisting with the installation of new cable lines.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following educational requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Telecommunications or a related technical field
- Equivalent technical qualifications may also be considered
Work Experience
Candidates should have the following experience:
- At least two years of experience working with a well-established telecommunications company
- Practical experience in fiber-optic installation, maintenance, or network support will be an added advantage

Job Description and Responsibilities
Preventive Maintenance Activities
The technician will ensure that all preventive maintenance work is completed according to client standards.
Key duties include:
- Conducting dark fiber testing
- Performing manhole cleaning and repairs
- Carrying out tree pruning near fiber routes
- Cleaning utility poles
- Performing trenching or piloting work
- Conducting routine network patrols
Fault Response and Troubleshooting
The technician will respond to technical faults and ensure quick resolution.
Responsibilities include:
- Receiving Trouble Tickets (TT) and responding immediately
- Diagnosing network faults and resolving them within the Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
- Sending progress updates every 30 minutes during fault restoration
- Providing photo updates showing restoration progress
Trouble Ticket Reporting
Proper communication and reporting are required throughout the repair process.
Duties include:
- Providing feedback on all closed trouble tickets
- Reporting reasons for unresolved tickets
- Suggesting an action plan to resolve outstanding issues within MTTR
Network Installation and Maintenance
The technician will assist with installation and maintenance of fiber infrastructure.
Tasks include:
- Installing new fiber cable lines underground or on telephone poles
- Conducting maintenance on existing fiber cables
- Performing evaluation tests on network lines
- Repairing damaged or malfunctioning cables
- Identifying and repairing problem areas within the network
Network System Support
The role also involves maintaining network systems and ensuring service reliability.
Responsibilities include:
- Installing and maintaining private line network systems
- Diagnosing service interruptions
- Implementing solutions to restore normal network operations
Outage Reporting
Technicians must document service interruptions and restoration activities.
This includes:
- Preparing outage reports
- Attaching photo evidence of faults and repairs
- Submitting reports to the Project Manager (PM)
Additional Duties
The technician may also perform other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor as part of operational requirements.
